Clarity and Calm - a meditation day retreat

from £0.00

CLARITY AND CALM

A meditation day retreat

Sunday 13th September 2026 | 10am - 3pm

Heart Jewel Centre, Matlock Bath

About the retreat:

Getting a feeling for the clear and peaceful nature of our own mind..

Join us for a day’s guided meditation retreat to gain an experiential insight into the peaceful clarity of the mind and how it functions to give rise to thoughts and feelings.

This is useful because happiness and suffering both depend upon the mind, and so if we want to avoid suffering and find enduring happiness it makes sense to understand how the mind works and use that understanding to create an oasis of inner peace.

Once we’ve learned to connect with it we can connect more deeply and more often and therefore experience deeper and deeper inner peace.

Session 1: Body of light

Session 2: Clarity

Session 3: The root mind

‘Beneath the turbulent surface of our mind there is always a vast ocean of clarity and peace.’ Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

£20 | Free for members

A simple vegetarian lunch is included.

Please email ad@heartjewel.org.uk if you have any special dietary requirements.

“Even though breathing meditation is only a preliminary stage of meditation, it can be quite powerful. We can see from this practice that it is possible to experience inner peace and contentment just by controlling the mind, without having to depend at all upon external conditions. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within. This feeling of contentment and well-being helps us to cope with the busyness and difficulties of daily life. So much of the stress and tension we normally experience comes from our mind, and many of the problems we experience, including ill health, are caused or aggravated by this stress. Just by doing breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes each day, we will be able to reduce this stress. We will experience a calm, spacious feeling in the mind, and many of our usual problems will fall away. Difficult situations will become easier to deal with, we will naturally feel warm and well disposed towards other people, and our relationships with others will gradually improve.” How to Transform Your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
